Review
OKX occupies a useful middle ground: it has liquidity approaching Binance's on major pairs, a futures fee schedule that matches the cheapest tier here at 0.02% maker and 0.05% taker, and a spot maker fee of 0.08% that is the lowest among the large exchanges in this comparison.
That 0.08% spot maker rate is worth calling out specifically because most comparisons ignore it. If you accumulate spot positions with limit orders rather than market buys, which is what most people building a position should be doing, you are paying 20% less per trade than on Binance, Bybit, Bitget or KuCoin, before any referral discount.
The platform's engineering quality is high. The API is well documented and stable, the web interface is fast, and the unified account model lets margin from a single balance back spot, margin and derivatives positions simultaneously. For traders running multiple strategies, that capital efficiency is a real advantage over exchanges with siloed sub-accounts.
OKX also operates a self-custody wallet and DEX aggregator alongside the exchange, which is useful if you move between centralised and on-chain trading. It is not a reason to choose the exchange on its own, but it removes a step.
The main drawbacks are the smaller number of listed assets, roughly a third of what Gate.io or MEXC list — and the same jurisdictional restrictions that affect every offshore venue. If you are hunting newly listed small caps, OKX will frequently not have them.
What it does well
- Lowest spot maker fee among the major exchanges at 0.08%
- Futures fees of 0.02% maker and 0.05% taker match the cheapest tier here
- Unified account lets one margin balance back spot, margin and derivatives positions
- High-quality API and documentation, well supported by third-party trading tools
- Integrated self-custody wallet and DEX aggregator
- Commission settles daily
Where it falls short
- Roughly a third the number of listed assets compared with Gate.io or MEXC
- Not available to US residents
- The unified account model has a learning curve if you are used to segregated balances
- Smaller derivatives liquidity than Binance on less-traded pairs
How to register with the OKX code
Sign up through the referral link
OKX carries the invite code in the URL path. The relationship is fixed at registration and cannot be added afterwards.
Check the code is shown before submitting
The registration form displays the referral code when the link has carried it correctly. If the field is empty, enter the code manually.
Complete verification
OKX requires identity verification for fiat deposits and withdrawals above minimal thresholds. Have a photo ID available.
Decide on unified versus classic account mode
OKX offers a unified account that shares margin across products, and a classic mode with separate balances. If you are new to derivatives, classic mode makes it much harder to accidentally put spot collateral at risk in a leveraged position.

OKX FAQ
- What are OKX trading fees?
- Standard tier spot fees are 0.08% maker and 0.10% taker. Futures are 0.02% maker and 0.05% taker. VIP tiers based on 30-day volume reduce these, and a referral code applies a discount on top.
- Why is the OKX spot maker fee lower than other exchanges?
- OKX prices maker orders below the 0.10% that most large venues charge, as an incentive to add liquidity to the order book. If you buy with limit orders rather than market orders, this is a standing 20% saving against most competitors.
- What is an OKX unified account?
- It lets a single margin balance back spot, margin and derivatives positions at once, rather than requiring funds to be transferred between separate wallets. It improves capital efficiency but means a losing derivatives position can draw on collateral you think of as spot holdings.
- Is OKX available in the United States?
- The global OKX platform does not accept US residents. Check the restricted country list on this page for the other jurisdictions we could confirm.
- How often does OKX pay referral commission?
- Daily, which is the same cadence as Binance, Bitget and MEXC.
