Privacy policy

CoinRefCodes does not require an account, and there is nothing on this site to sign up for. We do not ask for your name, email address or any other personal detail.

Two things are measured. Google Analytics records how the site is used, and we log a single event when you click through to an exchange. Both are described in full below.

This site uses Google Analytics 4. It sets cookies in your browser and collects usage data: which pages you view, an approximate location worked out from your IP address, your device type and browser, and the site you came from if you arrived by following a link.

Google collects that data, not us. It is sent to Google, processed on Google's systems, and handled under Google's own privacy terms rather than this policy. Those terms are at https://policies.google.com/privacy

We read it to see which pages people actually stay on and which languages the site is serving. We do not use it to identify individual visitors.

Google publishes a browser add-on that stops Google Analytics collecting data on every site you visit, this one included: https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout

Blocking the script works too, and most content blockers already do. Nothing on this site depends on analytics loading, so every page behaves the same either way.

When you click an outbound link to an exchange, we record a single event containing: which exchange the link was for, which page on this site it came from, the country your request came from as reported by our hosting provider, the host name of the referring site if you arrived from elsewhere, any campaign parameters in the URL, and whether the request came from a mobile or desktop browser.

This log is our own and stays separate from Google Analytics. It exists to tell us which exchange pages people actually act on, which is what determines where we invest further research and writing.

We do not store IP addresses. We do not store full referrer URLs, only the host name, because a full URL can carry search terms, session identifiers and private path segments from the referring site that we have no use for.

We do not store raw browser user-agent strings; they are reduced to a device category at the point of collection and the original string is discarded. Requests that classify as bots are dropped instead of recorded.

We do not attempt to identify or profile individual visitors from this log, and we do not build cross-site profiles from it. It is aggregate information about pages, not about people.

Google Analytics sets its own cookies, which is how it tells a returning visit from a new one. They are set as soon as a page loads, with no consent step in front of them.

We set no cookies of our own. Your language preference is determined from the URL, not from a stored identifier, and the outbound click log uses no cookie at all.

Exchanges you click through to set their own cookies under their own policies, over which we have no control. Read the privacy policy of any exchange before creating an account with it.
